Medical Receptionist

PRIMARY
Responsibilities:
Answer the phone and document complete message, schedule appointment or transfer call to appropriate person.
Check in arriving patients, update their demographic and insurance information in both AMS billing program and Aprima EHR if necessary, and deliver paper chart to nursing station.
Check out patients at lunch time, and as needed to cover other receptionist (input charges, collect and input payments, schedule appointments).
Call patients to remind about following day's appointment. Print encounter forms and schedule for next day.
Work approximately every sixth Saturday: answer phone, schedule appointments and prepare encounter forms as needed, greet patients, check out patients, open and sort mail, post mailed-in payments as time allows, close.

SECONDARY
Responsibilities:
Sort mail and distribute.
Copy patient charts as necessary, to answer requests for transfer of records, to provide medical information to insurance companies, etc.
Check fax machine for incoming pages; pull charts if prescription refills.
Help file charts.

CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Treat patients with the respect, patience and good humor that the doctor does - you are his representative as well as his assistant.
Pitch in where needed for smooth running of the office!

WHEN NEEDED: Immediately
WORK HOURS:
Weekdays 7:45 - 5:30 (closed Wed.); Saturdays 7:45 - approx. 1 pm.
Three days per week; plus 1 Saturdays every 6 weeks; plus help covering other receptionist's vacation and sick days.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Able to communicate well with people who are not at their best -- calm, reassuring disposition; very patient but able to be firm; not afraid to ask for payment.
Able to take clear, succinct, understandable phone messages, including neat, legible handwriting, good spelling, low-error typing skill.
Capable of functioning in high gear for extended periods of the day.
Able to juggle multiple small tasks and tolerate frequent interruptiions without getting irritated.
Quick learner with good memory for detail.
Organized worker who prefers to be busy all the time, and will look for something to do when primary work is caught up.
Familiarity with computers; willing to learn our appointment and billing software.
Able to balance a checkbook.
Willing to work as part of a team whose members have overlapping responsibilities and pitch in wherever necessary to keep the office running smoothly while providing quality patient care.
Being compulsive would be helpful!

Hourly pay will depend on experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
