Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the Press Operator shall safely produce product that meets our quality control guidelines.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
-Setup and operate press to print designs on materials such as paper, foil, vinyl, film and various other types of raw material.
-Monitor the raw material on press for defects and alignment.
-Mix colors for ink.
-The press operator should exercise cost control and promote cost consciousness at all times.
-Mount printing plates on press and adjust.
-Adjust for proper registration.
-Produce a quality product by expertly controlling the press.
-Visually inspect the product for defects in accordance with our quality control standard. (Cameras-when available)
-Unload printed rolls or sheets.
-Record material used on a job by job basis using job costing software.
-Clean ink pans and ink rollers when job is complete.
- Perform regularly scheduled cleaning and maintenance of the press.
-Work alone or in teams.
-Achieve and maintain established production and quality standards.
-Report all daily production, including rejects and machine down time.
-Use the proper safety equipment at all times.
-Observe all company safety rules.
-Obey the companys rules and regulations regarding prompt attendance.
-Follow guidelines on job jacket/related material inside jacket.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-Perform maintenance in your work area and general housekeeping procedures such as sweeping, clean up of product spills and organizing of work areas for the next shift.
-Attend all company meetings.
-Provide input to management on cost savings, process improvement, and safety issues.
-Assist supervision in maintaining proper inventory of production supplies for area.
-Assist supervision in training new permanent or temporary employees.
-Any other tasks issued by the department supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or equivalent is desired with at least a basic understanding of algebraic math and perform basic math calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide). Knowledge of setup, running and maintenance of flexographic presses is required. Experience in using various electric, pneumatic and other hand tools is highly desirable. The ability to read, interpret and follow instructions and procedures is essential. Must be analytical and a problem solver. Must have ability to be trainable on PC based production input computer systems.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to:
-Communicate using verbal and/or written instructions.
-Lift 50 pounds, to a vertical height of 48 with a horizontal reach of 24.
-Retrieve or replace material on high shelves with the use of ladders or forklift.
-Locate and identify raw material product item numbers.
-Distinguish between different colors of products and recognize changes in each production run (must not be colorblind).
-Use various measuring devices such as: calipers, weigh counts scales, tape measure, etc.
-Work scheduled shift hours, including overtime as required.
-Comprehend hazardous material warning labels and instructions, and plant safety rules.
-Must use all required safety equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Majority of work performed in a climate-controlled manufacturing shop setting. May be times when duties are required outside the building.
Must have experience on one of the following presses; mark andy, webtron, comco, aquaflex, or nilpeter.
Company will pay relocation.
