Scope of Work
Gather requirements from clients and plan/estimate work for web applications and web services projects. Generate development plans as needed to support implementation.
Perform hands-on web applications and web services development and testing. Some applications may require the implementation of a back-end database for application support. This includes prototyping, functional and usability testing, debugging, security testing/remediation, and working with research teams and system administrators to deploy applications as appropriate. May also include transition of applications from development to production environments.
Provide operational support to web applications and web services as directed. This may include debugging, operational/security testing, documenting code, versioning, and deploying updates.
Support the maintenance and upkeep of software development tools, frameworks, and environments that support software engineering efforts in the Center.
Other activities related to Web and software applications as assigned.
Key personnel Required Skills
BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
Demonstrated experience (2
years) with the use of Java, Javascript/CSS, and HTML (HTML5 preferred) for development of web applications or services.
Experience with one or more of the following:
Python (preferred), Perl, PHP, or CGI scripting.
Demonstrated experience with development, security/operational testing, and deployment of rich/interactive web applications for multiple browsers.
Experience designing and developing web-enabled database applications using standard enterprise relational or no SQL databases (e.g. - MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB).
Working knowledge in software development and programming best practices, including the ability to develop, test, and maintain secure applications.
Working knowledge of CSS/HTML and related web application and services protocols/formats (e.g. - exchange of data via JSON).
Demonstrated ability with current web development tools, frameworks, test suites, and IDE's (Spring, Eclipse, & MAVEN preferred)
Demonstrated ability to develop HTML/JavaScript templates.
Working knowledge of database design & implementation for both relational and unstructured datasets to
support web applications.
Knowledge of operating system features (particularly Linux), commands, and application layer interactions
Ability to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team
Self-starter with good communication and project management skills
Key Personnel Desired Skills
At least one (1) year of experience developing applications using advanced technologies, such as Internet protocols or web-based technology. Technologies include HTML, CGI applications, PERL or JavaScript, and JavaEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
