The Engineering Specialist I provides knowledge and expertise throughout the project lifecycle.
This role reports to the Operations Supervisor in Portland, OR and partners with branch team members who sell, engineer, install, and manage building automation projects.
Responsibilities:
o Estimating, designing, and tracking the start-up and commissioning jobs of projects.
o Attends pre-booking meetings to gain knowledge of the sales estimate and project scope.
o Analyzes plans, specifications, and contract to determine system requirements.
o Selects products, sizes, types, and location placement to ensure products meet specification requirements.
o Designs building automation systems consisting of mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, bill of materials, sequence of operations, valve and damper schedules, and Direct Digital Control panel layouts to meet the intent of the project plans, specifications and contract documents.
o Designs building automation network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, third party integration devices connected through Modbus, Siemens P2 or BACNET.
o Creates automation system database and job related programming for computer-based building control systems.
o Establishes special calibration instructions on selected equipment.
Oversees the creation of system graphics.
o Troubleshoots possible issues including identifying and debugging software, electrical or pneumatic and installation problems.
o Organizes and maintains the job folder and updates pertinent job related information.
o Prepares engineering re-estimate reports, minimizes variances and justifications.
o Provides on-site assistance with or performs the programming, start-up, checkout, commissioning and validation processes.
o Participates in job site final walk-through on assigned jobs, completes all job closeout documentation and provides customer training.
o Acts as a technical resource to existing customers and field employees as needed.
o Responsible for installation and subcontractor site managment.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and
Experience:
o Required
Experience:
5 years of experience in design, start-up and commissioning building automation systems.
o Required education:
High School or GED required.
College degree in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or computer science preferred.
o Required travel:

o Must be able to perform all tasks with minimal supervision or coaching.
o Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, HVAC concepts, business operations, and job financial reports.
o Proven experience completing responsibilities outlined above.
o Must be eligible to work in the U.

o Individual must possess a valid Driver's license in good standing.
o Individual must be at least 21 years of age in order to participate in the required Siemens vehicle plan.
o Microsoft office suite experience required.

Associate's Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or other related technical field preferred.

o AutoCad experience preferred.

Successfully demonstrates thorough/ advanced knowledge of a technical or specialty area.
Generally, 5-8 years of successful experience in area of responsibility and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above.

Frequent inter-organizational and external contacts.
