Accounting Supervisor

PURPOSE
This position is responsible for supervising MEA's payroll and payroll reporting functions, and assisting with supervision of other MEA accounting functions and related projects. Other accounting processes include general ledger and financial reporting, plant accounting and accounts payable functions. Other duties include acting as backup for the General Ledger Supervisor and Plant Accounting Supervisor; assisting with accounting, financial and regulatory matters; and performing related special projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Responsible for supervising payroll personnel.
Supervises the Association's payroll and payroll reporting functions, including review of entries, processes and reports.
Responsible for assisting with supervision of MEA's accounting functions, including review of entries, processes and reports. These processes include general ledger, financial reporting, plant accounting and accounts payable.
Acts as backup for the General Ledger Supervisor, learning the various duties of this position including supervising the general ledger functions. Backup responsibilities also include assisting with budget, financial forecasts and plans, banking and cash management functions, tax filings, insurance coverage, and administration and bookkeeping for other entities.
Acts as backup for the Plant Accounting Supervisor, learning the various duties of this position including supervising the plant accounting and accounts payable functions. Backup responsibilities also include coordinating the eBudget system, including user support.
Coordinates payroll input for MEA's annual Operating and Capital Budget, and prepares reports on related budget variances.
Assists in the preparation, analysis and distribution of financial, statistical, and compliance related reports. Assists with annual budget and annual audit. May assist with routine regulatory filings.
Special projects as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned, including specialized advice and assistance to senior staff and the General Manager as required.
May be called upon to provide interim supervisory or analytical support in other departments consistent with skills and expertise.
Performs the essential functions of the position in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the Association's work rules and safety policy.

ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidates are required to have a four year college degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a closely related field.
Requires five to seven years progressively responsible experience, preferably in the following areas:
Electric utility accounting
Regulatory affairs
Supervision
Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
Preference will be given to individuals with formal training and experience in computerized modeling, analysis, planning and forecasting, especially if such training includes utility related projects.
Candidates must have a valid Alaska driver's license and a driving record, which is acceptable and insurable by MEA's insurance carrier at standard group rates.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS
This position is classified as an exempt, non-represented position; and therefore is not eligible for overtime compensation. All MEA employees are expected to work widely varying amounts of time outside the normal shifts to assist in power restoration or other needs of the cooperative.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
