This is a full-time seasonal role in Kaysville, UT. Seasonal associates are direct hires onto H&R Block's payroll and may have the opportunity to work up to 10 months. JOB SUMMARY
Under the guidance of a senior, lead or principal software engineer, designs, develops and maintains software components and products that support H&R Block Tax software applications. Uses tools, languages, coding standards and best practices to develop new product features and maintain year over year product functionality and enhancements. Creates and executes unit tests and addresses defects. Works closely with the QA, User Experience and other teams to ensure consistent understanding of tax related requirements and approach.


JOB DUTIES
Utilization of tax knowledge to effectively develop applications
Designs, develops and maintains software components for tax preparer software applications
Creates and maintains documentation of design approaches.
Creates and maintains documentation on internal architecture of the system under the guidance of senior or lead software engineer.
Participates in technical design and code reviews for all new enhancements and maintenance work delivered.
Under the guidance of the lead engineer or senior software engineer, understand business and functional requirements and produces technical specifications and product requirements.
Creates, maintains and executes unit test and alpha test plans.
Maintains current knowledge on the latest tax regulatory changes relevant to the DOR's or IRS laws and theories associated with specific states or forms accountable for.
Monitors and analyzes new tax developments to determine effects. Develops written analysis of new tax law, rulings, case law, and regulations for dissemination to field associates, other WHQ departments, and the general public.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field or and equivalent combination of education and experience. Credential regulated under Circular 230 (Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney) or CFP credential.
Operational knowledge of tax law and regulations sufficient to understand and explain elements of personal, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, estate, gift, and international taxation.
Demonstrated ability to effectively research complex tax issues and effectively communicate findings.
Ability to interpret, analyze and correctly formulate solutions to highly complex tax situations.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Writing skills sufficient to communicate technical tax information in a clear manner for educational and training materials.
Ability to clearly explain complex tax situations.
Ability to work effectively in a diverse work group.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated effective time management, organizational, prioritization, and planning skills.
Analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to develop creative solutions in assigned projects

PREFERRED
Qualifications:
Knowledge of software development concepts and practices.
Knowledge of all phases of the software development lifecycle.
Experience with both individual and business returns including pass-through entitiesEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
