Faculty/Program Director, Histotechnology
The Faculty/Program Director, Histotechnology primary responsibilities include designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Histotechnology (HTO) Program; developing course syllabi and instructional materials; maintaining instructional records; student recruitment, advisement and retention; developing and evaluating courses, programs and services; participating in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean, School of Health Wellness and Public Safety. The position includes clinical instruction, and instruction in the laboratory and online learning environments. A full-time faculty position at Davidson County Community College is a nine plus three month contract. Faculty employed by the College are responsible for the following:

Here are just a few examples: through attendance at planning and development sessions, becoming involved with student clubs or organizations, mentoring or advising students and/or newer or adjunct faculty, attendance at student- activity events (such as sports, International Night, etc.) .
Demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and an openness to change.
Embracing innovation, and being open to risk-taking.
Maintaining professionalism in the DCCC community through an attitude of respect and collegiality.
Performing assigned tasks that support the mission and initiatives of the College.

II. Fostering student success through:
Teaching the course content to align with the course and program level outcomes using the assessment measures defined by the School.
Fostering the classroom environment in a way that maintains respect for diversity among students, including learning styles, and honors the focus on student learning and equity.
Ensuring that teaching strategies include active student engagement, timely and consistent feedback, and accurate up-to-date record keeping (attendance, grades in Moodle, Starfish, midterm, and final grade reporting, etc.).
Actively participating in completion initiatives.
III. Promoting effective teaching and learning through:
Teaching assigned courses at any and/or all of DCCC's service locations using the delivery method needed (on-line, hybrid, face-to-face, video-conferencing, etc.). Teaching times include morning/day, evening, or weekend hours.
Maintaining currency in both one's teaching discipline through reading, workshops, conferences, professional development, membership in relevant professional organizations, etc., and in the issues of higher education.
Developing course syllabi and providing appropriate documents for students.
Exploring, assessing, and implementing appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning outcomes and promote student retention and progression.
Understanding and using data-informed decision-making.
IV. Demonstrating commitment to a relevant and rigorous curriculum by:
Participating in the evaluation of courses and programs.
Participating in discussions relevant to choosing textbooks and other instructional materials.
Identifying and providing supporting resources through innovative use of the learning environment and collaboration with support services on campus.
Obtaining and accurately reporting data needed to assess the College's efficacy in teaching and learning.
Engaging collaboratively with colleagues in assessing relevant course and program data, determining how courses and programs can be improved, implementing and evaluating resulting changes.
Participate in activities necessary to attain and maintain program accreditation from NAACLS.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Histotechnology or related field from an accredited institution
Minimum of three years of full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical practice as an HT or HTL
Minimum of three years of experience in medical or laboratory education
Holds ASCP-BOC U.S. certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician
Skill in the use of computers and commitment to using technology
Experience with MS Office 2010
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively and collegially with others
Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change
Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:

Qualifications Preferred:
Master's Degree in Histotechnology or related field
Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as a current knowledge of accreditation and certification procedures
Experience in the instructional use of computers and non-traditional teaching methods
