Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, this individual will be responsible for managing the machine shop, including the allocation of work, managing priorities, and maintaining equipment. Position also requires programming of equipment for producing fixtures and ensuring work meets the drawing specifications/requirements with tight tolerances. The manager must be proficient in the full cycle of the machine shop programming, setup, and operations. Work schedule is salaried full-time.
The ideal candidate will have 10 or more years experience in metal machining. Must have and demonstrate excellent conceptual skills, verbal communication, functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation skills, tooling, coordination, attention to detail, and judgment.
Key Accountabilities:
Plan jobs and preventive maintenance to fully utilize machine shop resources and ensure machines are running at optimal efficiencies.
Works with planning team to establish work throughput schedules which reflect the shop capacity.
Maintain and give updates to shop schedule. Communicate all work in progress and inform upper management of potential problems with agreed deadlines.
Well versed using a Haas VF3 and Haas ST20 Y Axis lathe with Live Tooling
Able to use Mastercam and proficient with G-Code
Proficient at setting up vertical and horizontal CNC machines.
Able to use Mitsubishi CX Series wire cut EDM system.
Ability to complete first article inspections and required documents.
Ability to order proper tooling and build fixturing.
Maintain equipment and clean work environment.
Proficiencies:
o Ability to maintain sub mil tolerances of IDs and ODs, flatness, roundness, concentricity, squareness.
o The working properties of all advanced materials normally processed in the shop including steel, aluminum, and brass.
o Metal quality criteria, includes calculating dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and precision instruments such as micrometers, height gauge and calipers.
o Understand and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances.
o The methods, materials, tools, equipment and techniques used in the manufacture of standard and advanced material based products.
o The principles, practices, and standards utilized in the machinist trade.
o The occupational hazards and safety precautions of the machinist trade.
o The importance of precise and comprehensive documentation.
o Supervisory methods and techniques.
Additional Valued Skills:
Work directly with Engineering and Operations to define scope, risks, and schedule of fixtures, tools, and new product.
Assists with third-party service providers.
Must be adaptable to changing work environment, competing demands, and be able to deal with
frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
Assists with the training of other associates.
Job Requirements:
Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per day.
Ability to lift, push, pull up 40 pounds unassisted.
Ability to continuously bend, stoop, twist and reach.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
