Summary:
The Tooling Manager provides direction to the Injection Molding (Fitments) Tooling and Maintenance support personnel, with specific focus on preventative and timely corrective maintenance of process equipment, injection molds, tooling, and auxiliary equipment. Additional responsibilities include project leadership on new product development scale-up projects, support of machine development efforts, support for sister facilities within the region, and development of department maintenance personnel. The Technical Manager fulfills the responsibilities of this role when vacant.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities are representative and may be expanded.
Establish and maintain a strong manufacturing customer focus throughout the department and in support of plant-wide and regional operations.
Ensure high quality and cost effective technical support is supplied to all customers on a timely basis.
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with the product development group, operations customers, engineering, and suppliers.
Within the Fitments department and all operations departments, develop and maintain an atmosphere of trust and business awareness.
Insist upon fairness and equality in the application of corporate policies and treat all individuals with dignity and respect.
Establish a skilled and competent work force with an emphasis on team building and group problem solving.
Maintain high standards for safety and housekeeping which result in an atmosphere which is safe and clean for all employees.
Provide repairs and preventative support to the Fitments department in a timely and efficient manner considering life-cycle costs and paying careful attention to shop floor bottlenecks, in support of minimizing conversion costs and maximizing process equipment OEE.
Establish operating indicators (metrics) which measure departmental performance on a regular basis and communicate this information to upper management, critical customers and employees.
Pursue stretch goals which continue to improve key indicators beyond conventional means which result in the lowest practical manufacturing costs.
Implement ongoing productivity improvement programs.
Actively participate in capital planning, implementation, and new process development scale-up efforts.
Support the introduction of new technology.
Provide consistent and timely support to sister facilities to maximize the global benefit to corporate objectives.
Lead product development scale-up project efforts that have a positive impact on the business.
Develop strong, positive communication links with Manufacturing, Autofill, Sales, Finance, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Human Resources and Planning.
Provide strong leadership in the area of personnel safety for all departments by setting the standards high to ensure that maintenance efforts do not put employees at risk.
This role directly supervises employees in the Fitments Technical Group, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
Responsible for overseeing food safety.
Responsibilities for supervising direct reports include: hiring, and training, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Provide leadership and guidance to staff members.
EDUCATION and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. A combination of education and related work experience will also be considered. High school diploma/GED is required.
Ten (10) plus years of similar working experience.
Specialty experience in machining, tooling, mold repair, and process engineering is preferred.
Previous experience with molds and molding machines is critical.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project) and CAD (Computer Aided Design) experience is preferred.
