Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer (SK6064)

The Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for design, development, testing, and control of major engineering projects involving major Machinery & Equipment in automotive assembly plants. The plant is an engine assembly operation. The position requires a considerable amount of creativity and initiative as well as a high level of independent judgment. May supervise or exercise technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel with specific engineering objectives.
o Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and or project.
o Proposes and evaluates manufacturing processes and equipment for assigned area.
o Directs the design, development and/or improvements of manufacturing processes and equipment for assigned area.
o Evaluates expenditures for processes and/or equipment.
o Maintains cost controls, performance metrics, and schedule requirements for assigned projects.
o Provides technical assistance and training for assigned plant operations.
o Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions.
o Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise.
o Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities.
o Utilize Product Development Teams (PDT) to drive common Process Driven Product Designs for processes, & tools.
o Respond to estimate requests and complete Manufacturing Planning Studies as required.
o Process design release - Complete Assembly Process Kits for work stations (process and tools).
o Support the tooling budget within the approved line Item.
o Workstation layout development & release for all workstations.
o Validation of machinery & equipment - Comply with GM tooling development procedures
o Manufacturing workstation validation - Collect all pertinent documentation and give direction along with the documentation to the Simulation group so that a functional work station can be developed and validated
o Successful launch of manufacturing workstations - Provide direction for the design / build / installation / debug / tryout of all Workstations for M&E tooling.
o Review and respond to product engineering change proposals within the allotted time.
o Take responsibility for Issue Resolution completion and implementation.
o Drive the resolution of Product/Process Resolution Tracking System issues.
Qualifications
Basic Required
o High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.
o Thorough knowledge of tooling and manufacturing processes.
o Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required.
o Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to manufacturing preferred.
o Assembly plant experience preferred
o Familiar with vehicle and tooling tolerancing and locating strategies
o Math Based knowledge desired
o Ability to travel
o Extensive hours often required based on stage of project
o Must be willing to work any shift
Basic Preferred
o General Assembly Processing & Tooling experience preferred
o Experience in Layout Processing Desired
o Knowledge of Lean Material Strategies and Applications Desired
o Experience in tool design and build follow up
o Familiar with math based processes
o Familiar with GMNA standards
o Assembly plant experience in Production, Plant Engineering/Maintenance, Quality, or Industrial Engineering.
Education and Training
o Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent training
Candidate Must be Able to work any of 3 shifts
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
