Pixar is looking for Technical Directors to construct the geometry of computer-generated characters and character props. Set up models with articulation controls for technical functionality with static design for animation. Develop character rigs solutions in coordination and cooperation with animators. Maintain, enhance, and support character rigs throughout film production. Work with creative and technical leads to iterate on digital models, as needed for the production of feature animation. Ensure that the result functions in accordance with specifications, including performance, user interface, aesthetics, and robustness. Review and revise results with the Director and the creative or technical leads. Produce documentation as necessary.
Employer will accept Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Art, Architecture or related field; and six months experience in the job offered or in an animation-related occupation. Education or experience must include:
1) DVD demo reel demonstrating knowledge of general motion, face and hand movement, an understanding of facial shapes and how to achieve facial targets in animation; modeling skills, and general body rigging
2) 3D computer graphics theory and practice;
3) Physical motion, weight and balance in animation;
4) Volumes and masses, shape and composition;
5) UNIX or Linux;
6) Writing scripts to facilitate workflow improvements in Python or MEL;
7) Character modeling in Maya, ZBrush or Mudbox;
8) Sculpting and anatomy;
9) Aesthetic and design for 3D modeling;
10) Working with animation and art departments in communicating design ideas and executing 2D designs into 3D models;
11) Basic animation principles such as squash and stretch, appeal, and arcs;
12) Understanding of character topology and its effect on 3D deformation; and
13) Film, game or other graphics production experience.
