General Summary
Our busy, family- orientated private practice is expanding and looking to hire a vibrant, compassionate, and professional preliminary exam technician to meet our growing needs. Duties include performing preliminary tests on patients (including visual field testing, fundus photography, and blood pressure screening), scribing for the doctor, making appointments, and teaching patients how to insert, remove and care for contact lenses. We are looking to fill either full-time or part-time positions.

Essential Functions
Adhering to HIPPA compliance
Enter exam information using OfficeMate software
Check in patients and assist them in filling out the proper forms
Pulling insurances and benefits
Use preliminary exam equipment, such as an autorefractor/ keratometer, visual fields testing, fundus photography
Perform color vision screenings, depth perception tests, check blood pressure
Measure PD
Obtain patient history
Scribe for the doctor
Sterilize, clean, and maintain all equipment
Troubleshoot any problems with equipment
Assisting patients in frame selection, ensuring a proper fit for the patient's measurements and prescription requirements
Interpreting prescription
Interpreting insurance and calculating out-of-pocket costs
Neutralize patient's prescription eyewear using a manual lensometer
Dispense eyewear, contacts, and other optical goods
Adjust glasses
General repair to eyewear, including nosepads, screws, drillmount bushings, and temple cover replacements
Make appointments and check patients in using OfficeMate
Instruct patients on how to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses
Assisting patients with contact lens orders and rebates
Maintain an orderly and clean work station
Comfortable using computers and able to adapt to new software easily

Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate for this position would have 2
years experience as an optical preliminary examination technician, but we are willing to train the right candidate. The candidate should have a working knowledge of the optics and the visual system and excel in math and customer service. Compensation is based on experience. Prelim exam tech must be able to work on Saturday mornings and possibly weekday evenings, and attend continuing education at least once per year outside of the office.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
