Product Development Engineer
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
Position
The OMG Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing (AEM) team is focused on developing compelling and innovative new products, and improving our existing products to better meet the needs of professional contractors and building specifiers in the markets we serve. Reporting to the Director of Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing, the Product Development Engineer will support these efforts using gated development processes and Six Sigma tools. This key position is responsible for whole project management - from concept to launch, including timeline management, cross-organization communications, and team management.
Key Responsibilities
Promoting Safety as our #1 priority
Creation and management of project team
Identification of customer needs, concept design and development
Managing and driving overall project timeline with urgency
Communicating project timelines and progress throughout the organization including periodic formal Gate Reviews with Senior Management
Other Responsibilities
Developing cost models and overall business justification with marketing assistance
Competitive product evaluation
Coordination of lab testing
Final design selection
Intellectual property protection
Ensuring manufacturability compliance
Supply Chain coordination with Supply Group
Ensuring Quality System development with QA Department
Promotion of Lean Principles
Participant in other team projects
Other tasks as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering
Demonstrated Solid Modeling experience - SolidWorks preferred
New product development experience
Demonstrated hands-on aptitude (construction and/or mechanical)
'Gated' development process training and experience
Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office suite
Six Sigma Black Belt training and experience
Ability to stand, see, walk, climb, talk, hear and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Ability to be a creative self-starter that is highly motivated and has a strong sense of personal accountability
A commercial perspective that drives projects to successful completion
Team player with strong problem solving abilities and excellent communication skills (written and oral)Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
