MEDICAL LAB TECH
Department Name GENERAL CHEMISTRY Job Description POSITION SUMMARYNonexempt (Hourly - Eligible for overtime) To be responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and result reporting according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSMust be certified or eligible for certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
Associate's degree in related field.
Work experience may substitute for minimum education requirement.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLSAssists in the orientation of laboratory procedures for students and new laboratory employees.
Performs maintenance on instruments and equipment as needed.
Performs calibration of equipment as required.
Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, finger sticks, heel sticks and bleeding times) as appropriate for the patient requiring the procedure.
Evaluates specimens for acceptability and performs appropriate testing of specimens in the laboratory.
Reports results for stats, abnormal, critical values and other categories of special requests as defined by laboratory policy.
