The Distributed Systems Trade Processing and Support team is undertaking a series of projects in 2015 that involve new business application development, enterprise software upgrades, and infrastructure overhauls, for its mission-critical application environment. The upgrade and infrastructure projects involve multi-server Unix to Linux conversions (involving Sybase and Oracle business application databases and data file processing programs), a Sybase upgrade - affecting about 15 applications, and an overhaul of auto-faxing infrastructure.
Job Description:
Principal
Responsibilities:
o General database development (including design and creation of tables, triggers, stored procedures, etc.) for a variety of business applications
o Modification/rewriting of Unix shell processes for Linux; and maintenance of them, thereafter
o Maintenance of server file systems and related components
o Development of server process monitors, alerts, and error reporting
o Update/modify/optimize the database data load/data crunching-type procedures to Sybase 15.7 (or 16)
o Assist web developers with optimizing their stored procedures, SQL, etc.
o Database maintenance - including the development of data archiving routines
o Development of technical system design documents
o Daily monitoring and production support for (a) The Sybase and Oracle business application databases - and the related processes; (b) Block trade FTP; (c) Auto-faxing
o Daily support of the development and testing database environments - including light, database administrative tasks
o Business application release planning and support (database/server-side)
o Server DR and failover test support
o Performance tuning
Experience/ Technical Skills Requirements:
Technologist with strong analytical and technical skills and passion for technology.
o 3
years of technical experience in Java development.
o High degree of competency in object oriented design and analysis and development.
o Strong working knowledge of RDBMS (DB2 is preferred).
o Demonstrated history of successful technical project lifecycle management, including testing and deployment.
o Experience working with large scalable systems.
o Familiarity with testing frameworks (JUnit/TestNG) and concepts (Test Driven Development, Regression and Parametric testing).
o Strong team player.
o Strong Analytical skills.
o Candidate should have good written and verbal communications skill.
o Bachelor's degree with major in engineering or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
o 10
Years of work experience. Financial services industry experience is a plus.
o Bachelors' degree or higher in Computer Science (or a related degree)
o Solid understanding of the enterprise software development process - including analysis, design, coding, system and user testing, and release management (with both the Waterfall and Agile development methodologies)
o High-adeptness in problem analysis and resolution
o A strong team player; good interpersonal skills; detail-oriented
o Good written and verbal skills are a must
Advanced expertise is required, with the following technologies:
o Sybase ASE (15.0 and higher)
o Oracle (10g and higher)
o The Unix/Linux OS. Oracle Linux is preferred.
o Shell scripting
o SQL
At least mid-level expertise is required, with the following technologies:
o PGP encryption
o Websphere MQ
o FTP

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
