Medical Instrument Technician (Gastroenterology)

The Medical Instrument Technician in the Gastroenterology Clinic demonstrates advanced clinical skills with GI procedures which include procedural knowledge of colonoscopies, biopsies, Endoscopy, ERCP, Peg Placement, sigmoidoscopies, liver biopsy, and motility studies.
This position requires a practical knowledge of the basic setup and performance of all Endoscopy and gastroenterology procedures.
Incumbent has advanced knowledge in GI to allow complex problem solving with patient needs, ability to vary routines based off the work load and anticipate the needs of nursing and physician staff to set up and perform procedures as directed.
Provides follow up care for post PEG removal with evaluations, unplug PEG tubes and instruct residents on Flex Sig procedures on a teaching model.
Provides tasks autonomously, with minimal direction.
Manages assigned clinical tasks, maintains and orders supplies, tracks inventory.
Has practical knowledge of the basic setup and performance of all Endoscopy and Gastroenterology procedures.
Has a working knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the digestive system in order to interpret patient responses, procedure requirements and outcome.
Familiar with common gastrointestinal diseases.
Incumbent performs assigned clerical responsibilities.
