ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - PATHOLOGY

The Clinical Molecular Pathology Department uses state of the art technologies to develop IHC and ISH assays for biomarkers that enable clinical development decisions.
The group is seeking an anatomic pathologist to devise and implement strategies in concert with groups within and outside BMS that further the value proposition for biomarker evaluations in drug development.
The successful candidate will be familiar with the molecular, cellular, systems biology, and pathoogenetic mechanisms of disease to advise discovery and clinical development teams regarding sample selection and experimental design that will best advise clinical development questions.
He/She will have strong interest in providing pathology support for drug and biomarker discovery programs particularly in oncology and immuno-oncology and flexibility to contribute to other therapeutic areas as needs arise.
Previous experience interpreting staining patterns and visual scoring of IHC results, providing feedback on assay quality, and documenting findings in formal reports as well as presenting results at various meetings internally and externally is required.
The candidate will also be responsible for overseeing assay transfer and quality of external vendors, including training on novel methodologies/scoring systems as needed.
Qualifications This position requires an MD, or their foreign equivalents, with appropriate board certification in pathology and demonstration of scholarly productivity in a relevant field of biomedical research.
Preference will be given to individuals with hands-on experience or experience supervising others in applying advanced digital microscopy and software methods for quantitative assessment of IHC results.
Qualified candidates must have an MD or equivalent plus at least 8 years work experience (clinical, academic and/or biopharma).
Preference will be given to individuals with previous experience in the field of oncology and immunology biomarkers.
Prior experience with clinical studies and diagnostic development is a plus.
Successful candidate will be a highly motivated and collaborative individual with experience of managing people and the ability to multitask and drive team achievement while working across multiple disciplines in a complex matrix organization.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to clearly communicate scientific objectives and project results are required.
