Utility Systems Repairer-Operator

This Utility Systems Repairer-Operator position is a working supervisory position located in the Plan Operations Section of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Supervises directly three (3) Utility Systems Repairer/Operators assigned to a water treatment plant.
At times fills in and supervises a boiler plant and/or chiller plants, with responsibility for an additional seven (7) Utility Systems Repairer/ Operators, three (3) Boiler Plant Operators, and three (3) Air Conditioning Mechanics.
Supervises the operation, maintenance, and repair of a water treatment plant that consists of coagulation, sedimentation clarifier, granulated activated carbon system, 400,000 gallon potable water reservoir, 750,000 gallon elevated potable water storage tank, an three water wells.
Supervises the operation, maintenance, and repair of a sewage lift station, swimming pool, numerous water softeners, reverse osmosis, and deionized water system.
Assigns preventive maintenance tasks to operators under his/her supervision and maintains records of all repairs and maintenance actions.
Ensures that all needed materials, supplies, and tools are ordered and available for use.
Conducts special training sessions for all operators as needed.
Manages plant employees, recommends promotions and commendations, approves and disapproves leave as plant operations require.
Creates logs, training aids, and reports using Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Microsoft Word.
Supervises and directs the installation of new equipment and systems.
Possesses a working knowledge of control wiring, electrical wiring, and piping systems.
Uses and trains personnel in the use of testing equipment, i.
e.
, volt-ohm-meter, amp-meter, pH meter, conductivity meter, manometers, dial indicators.
Uses and trains personnel in the use of various power and hand tools in the repair of equipment, i.
e.
, drill presses, portable hand drills, bench grinders, and pipe threading machines.
Plans shift , leave, and work schedules as appropriate and required.
Reviews work in terms of overall efficiency to ensure satisfactory accomplishment of repairs and efficient operation of equipment.
Ensures all deadlines, policies, procedures, state and local laws, requirements are understood, followed and met.
Resolves informal complaints per guidelines.
Prepares formal evaluations of employee performance.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
