Optometrist
The Tomah VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a full-time Optometrist.
The Optometrist position is assigned to the Wisconsin Rapids Community Based Outpatient Clinic with the possibility of occasional travel to the Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide eye care services to Veterans.
Optometrists must be able to perform detailed diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative procedures for a wide range of ocular and visual anomalies.
The Optometrist also provides clinical oversight to Optometry Technicians.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the position may include, but are not limited to:
Primary eye and vision care services, such as:
o Prescribing glasses;o Ordering diagnostic imaging and laboratory studies;o Preparing referrals for diagnosis, treatment, and management of systemic and ocular conditions revealed through optometric examination; ando Patient and family health education.
Primary optometric eye and vision care, such as:
o Urgent care (evaluating/managing/triaging urgent, non-surgical eye conditions);o Problem-oriented care (managing patients referred with complaints typical of routine disorders);o Preventive health services (performing mandated examinations such as diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma screenings).
o Performs comprehensive compensation and pension eye exams.
Clinical procedures, such as:
o Medical and ocular history;o Visual acuity measurement;o Pupillary function testing;o Color vision testing;o Extra-ocular muscle function and binocularity testing;o Refractive and accommodative testing;o External examination of the eye and adnexal structures;o Bio-microscopic evaluation of the ocular adnexa, anterior, and/or posterior segments of the eye, including gonioscopic and fundus lens evaluation; _o Ophthalmoscopic, tonometric, and perimetric evaluations; ando Other duties as assignedWork Schedule:
