Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Exempt (Salaried - Not eligible for overtime) To supervise the daily operation of the assigned section of the laboratory. To assist in maintenance and development of the laboratory computer system in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must be certified or eligible for certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB). Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biology or related field and three (3) years of related experience. Work experience may substitute for minimum education requirement.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLS
Participates in the evaluation and selection of equipment, methods and procedures needed for the section.
Evaluates work performance and recommends promotion, demotion, transfers and other personnel actions including disciplinary action and suspensions.
Oversees orientation of new employee when hired and will train all employees if new procedures, instruments or methods are established.
Participates in selection of all instruments and methods used in laboratory section.
Establishes, updates and maintains laboratory section procedure manuals and protocol. Maintains test in computer.
Maintains and orders, as needed, inventory and supplies required to efficiently operate the section.
Maintains and updates technical knowledge and skills and participate in the ongoing sharing of this knowledge with the staff.
Supervises all work performed within the section. Reviews test results reports, organizes work flow and prioritizes work as needed.
Maintains records and documentation in compliance with required rules and regulations of all licensing and accrediting agencies and organizations.
Schedules work assignments and plans work schedules of employees to maintain consistent and adequate coverage of the laboratory.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Knowledge of supplies and equipment ordering and inventory control
Ability to operate various office machines including printers, computers and various software packages
Knowledge and experience in healthcare
Process improvement and quality skills
Written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multi-task
