Department Name GENERAL CHEMISTRY Job Description POSITION SUMMARYNonexempt (Hourly - Eligible for overtime) To perform a variety of lab tests, procedures and analyses for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
To report results according to laboratory protocol and procedures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSWork experience may substitute for minimum education requirement.
Must be certified or eligible for certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLSPerforms phlebotomy procedures as appropriate for the patient requiring the procedure.
Procedures include venipuncture, finger sticks, heel sticks and bleeding times.
Analyzes and tests specimens received in the laboratory and evaluates the specimens for acceptability.
Cleans assigned areas, restocks supplies and notifies supervisors of any problems or shortages of supply.
Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
Performs periodical maintenance on instruments and equipment.
Performs calibration of equipment as required.
Assists with orientation of laboratory procedures for student and new laboratory employees.
