Physician (Chief of Surgery Service)
The Marion, Illinois VA Medical Center is seeking a well-qualified full-time Physician with innovative leadership skills and good interpersonal skills to join the Marion VA Medical Center as the Chief of Surgery Service.
The Service Chief will assume clinical and administrative responsibilities and demonstrate positive team spirit.
This position reports to the Chief of Staff.
The Physician will be granted clinical privileges as a licensed independent practitioner in their applicable surgical specialty.
The duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
o Overseeing professional and administrative activities within the assigned division including selection, orientation and continuing education of staff in collaboration with other Physician leaders.
o Monitoring and evaluating the quality of care provided in the division.
This includes access, efficiency, effectiveness and appropriateness of care and treatment of patients served by the programs within the division and the clinical/professional performance of all individuals in the division.
o Assuring that individuals with clinical privileges competently provide service within the scope of privileges granted.
o Recommending appointment and clinical privileges for each member of the division and others requesting privileges within the division.
o Serving on the Clinical Executive Committee and Chairs the Surgery Service Quality Assurance Committee.
o Developing and implementing policies and procedures; oversight of administrative and programmatic resources; and monitoring outcomes using data-driven quality assurance processes.
o Utilizing 25% of their time providing clinical services to Veterans within their specialty and privileges.
These duties may include clinical appointments, performing procedures, conducting diagnostic evaluations, medication management and consultations.
Areas of responsibility consist of:
General Surgery, Urology, Anesthesia, Vascular, Thoracic, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Otolaryngology, and Pain Management.
The incumbent will report to the Chief of Staff or designee.
