Job Description
Mon-Fri 8am - 5pm
The Medical Coder will be responsible but not limited to reviewing charts for proper level of service, modifiers, ICD9 / ICD10 Coding, and billing for various other services provided by our office such as Diagnostic Testing.
Review medical records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with documentation standards of federal, state and accreditation agencies
Understand/apply insurance requirements to ensure proper submission of claims
For identified coding/billing errors analyze and investigate source of error to prevent future reoccurrence
Work effectively with physicians to ensure accurate coding and to provide coding guidance as needed
Assist in educating providers on billing issues identified through on-going reviews of submitted charges in conjunction with the Billing Dept.
Complete FMLA and Disability forms as needed for patients
Other duties as assigned
Primarily a sedentary role of computer, telephone and desk work, data entry, copying, faxing. Some stooping and bending, moving about the office may be required. No heavy lifting is required.

Job Requirements
Allscripts software experience a plus
AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required, if not currently Certified, able to take and pass the test within 1 year of hire
Minimum 2 years of recent physician-based medical office Billing & Coding required
Ability to understand billing criteria for appropriate diagnosis codes using ICD-9 / ICD-10 and procedure codes using CPT and HCPCS
Ability to understand anatomy and physiology and apply knowledge as it relates to coding compliance
Experience using Electronic Medical Records Systems, EDI and commercial insurance company systems
Understand/apply insurance requirements to ensure proper submission of claims or identified coding/billing errors analyze and investigate source of error to prevent future reoccurrence
Detail oriented, must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload
Ability to think critically and to work independently as well as in a team environment
Customer service orientation as well as excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong computer skills
Ability to work in a high-volume, fast paced environment
Ability to read and interpret physician documentation and provide advice on correct codes
Must be comfortable adapting to the upcoming ICD-10 CM code set
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
