Emergency Physician Assistant
Nelson Enterprise Technology Services, LLC (NETS) is currently seeking a licensed Emergency Physician Assistant (PA) to provide health care support for a new customer, Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), Fort Bragg, NC. The PA will work in conjunction with other health care providers(HCPs), professionals, and non-contract personnel.
The quality of care provided by the PA shall be of a quality meeting or exceeding currently recognized national standards as established by the Joint Commission (JC). PAs shall give the highest regard to patient dignity and observe the precepts of the American Hospital Association's Bill of Rights for Patients. The PA shall abide by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) rules, regulations and by laws, including Medical Staff By laws, as well as applicable Army regulations governing such things as medical records.

Qualifications:
Be a graduate of an educational program accredited by the Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation on behalf of the American Medical Association. Be a graduate Physician Assistant (preferably, a residency trained Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant) qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician in accordance to the AR 40-68.
Have a minimum one (1) year of clinical experience in Emergency Medicine to include two (2) years of primary care experience treating patients of all ages for routine, urgent and emergent diseases and injuries to include a minimum one (1) year of clinical experience in Emergency Medicine and no more than twelve (12) months since last work assignment in Primary Care, Urgent care or Emergency Care
Must maintain a current, active, valid and unrestricted license or authorizing document from any U.S. State, District of Columbia; or U.S. Territory or jurisdiction to provide health care within the scope of practice for a specific health care discipline. Health care providers who write prescriptions for controlled substances must have a current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate or Controlled Drug Substance number as appropriated. The PA shall ensure that renewal actions are accomplished well before expiration of the providers' license and or/DEA certification to ensure compliance.
Certificates/licenses/training shall be maintained in a current status at all times while performing services under this contract. Qualified PA candidates shall submit a credentials application along with copies of qualifying degrees, certifications, licenses, and BLS/training (as certified by the American Heart Association), and other documentation as specified in order to qualify for privileging by WAMC.
Qualified PA candidates shall receive a general physical examinationand comply with the Health and Immunization requirements identified below at the time of initial request for clinical privileges and annually thereafter.
Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to receive favorable a pre-employment background screening results and undergo a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Present a neat and clean appearance; PAs shall wear dresses, skirts, pants or slacks, shirt or blouses with collar and sleeves, shoes and socks.
Tasks:
Physician Assistant (PA) shall perform and provide medical examination and treatment as required by the MTF and Chief, Department of Emergency Medicine. The Physician Assistant shall be responsible for providing immediate evaluation and management of routine, urgent and emergent illness as they occur.
Provide urgent care services working 40 hours per week. The normal hours of work are every day, 24 hours a day, including weekends and Federal holidays. The exact hours of duty will be coordinated prior to start date. PAs working on this contract are deemed Mission Essential and during anticipated closure of the facility due to Command declared training holidays or during unplanned closure of the facility due to natural disasters, military emergencies, severe weather, or otherwise, the contractor shall report to duty as scheduled.
Adequately assess, diagnose, stabilize and treat diseases and injuries to include, but not limited to the following: Skin, Head, Ears, Eyes, Nose, Throat, Mouth, Teeth, Neck, Cardiovascular System, Pulmonary System, Gastrointestinal System, Lymphatic System, Musculoskeletal System, Genitourinary System, Reproductive System, Psychiatric Disease, Central Nervous System, Endocrine System, and Peripheral Nervous System. The Physician Assistant shall be able to recognize those conditions beyond his/her level of training and/or experience and consult a physician in an appropriate and timely manner.
Adequately perform credentialed medical procedures to include, but not limited to the following:
Administer intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous medications; Anoscopy; Arthrocentesis (excludes hip); Burn management; Cultures (throat/wound); Ear irrigation; Eye irrigation; Foreign Body Removal (rectal, extremity and uncomplicated ear/nose); Incision and drainage of abscesses & thrombosed hemorrhoids; Ingrown toenail removal initial interpretation of radiographs; Initial management of, envenomations and exposure to hazardous materials; Initial management of orthopedic extremity injuries, uncomplicated (splints); Interpret laboratory results; Laceration repair, complex (excludes flexor tendon repair and repair of neurovascular damage), Laceration repair (simple); Local Anesthesia (topical/ infiltration) and Regional Anesthesia (digits); Nebulizer treatment; Ocular tonometry, fluorescein and slip lamp examination; Perform venous puncture for laboratory studies; Secure and maintain an adequate airway; Secure and maintain adequate intravenous access by peripheral routes; Suture Removal; Wound care (evaluate and direct management).
Must see patients at a minimum average rate of 2.25 patients per hour. Quality of care will not be compromised in order to maintain this rate of patient care. Courtesy and professionalism will not be sacrificed in order to maintain this rate of patient care. Other performance evaluation factors will be monitored that are not quantified by numerical measurements which include: not prescribing medications not on hospital formulary; no inappropriate prescriptions; patient customer service comments; Army Provider Level Satisfaction Survey results; provider and contractor relationship with hospital staff and government contracting personnel; compliance with hospital policy and procedures.
Charting. Complete charting IAW with regulatory guidance. PA will be required to legibly complete the department's documentation sheet (s) complete with signature, stamp, and date. Charting will be complete at the end of each emergency visit and upon discharge of patient. Emergency visit will include a review of any/all laboratory and radiology results in support of treatment and diagnosis. Electronic medical record systems will be used when required by the Department in accordance with established WAMC policies and procedures.
PAs authorized to prescribe pharmaceuticals shall do so according to the availability of drugs listed therein. The pharmacy services will provide instructions to all prescribing contract physicians on substitutions and generic drugs for prescribed drugs. The PA shall follow the procedures of the MTF when prescribing drugs.
The PA shall be responsible for the security of all Soldier information.
Must not receive more than 1-2 valid complaints or grievances per year from staff and/or patients.
Comply with Confidentiality / HIPAA policy, Joint Commission standards, WAMC Bylaws, Regulations, Memoranda, and policies.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
