Data Center Technician
This position is for a Data Center Technician to install data center equipment and related systems cabling. This is a hands-on working position to provide the installation and technical expertise in a data center environment. Requirements of the position include the ability to perform the following tasks:
o Install equipment in data center cabinets as directed by the customer
o Install UTP and/or fiber jumpers as required
o Connect power cables within cabinets as required
o Work with customer representatives (smart hands) in resolving and repairing troubles as well as performing upgrades to equipment in operation
o Add labels to cabling in accordance with customer standards
o Complete documentation related to installations including but not limited to cabinet and cable layouts
o Provide regular status reports as required by the customer
o Any other work relating to the installation of equipment in the data center cabinets for the project as required by customer
The Data Center Technician will take direction from the Data Center Manager and will report to the Director of Engineering. This position is tasked with meeting and exceeding customer needs and requirements, delivering quality installations that are within Scope and function as designed. This position is also tasked with promoting a team-based working environment on all assigned projects and with maintaining good working relationships between co-workers and with customers and other trades.
Must be willing to work long hours as needed.
Required
Experience: minimum of 3 years in same or similar position.
Hourly rate will be based on skills and experience.
Requirements:
o Excellent technical skills related to the installation of Data Center equipment such as switches, servers, etc.
o Good skills installing low voltage system cabling; Cat 5E/Cat 6 and fiber installation and devices.
o Above average customer service skills.
o Effective written and verbal communications skills.
o Self-starter.
o Able to follow defined corporate processes & policies.
o Strong team worker with effective leadership skills.
o Must possess a high level of quality commitment and attention to detail.
o Ability to work flexible hours and overtime.
Skills &
Qualifications:
o Previous experience installing equipment such as switches, servers, and UPS's in a Data Center is required.
o Experience in handling, prioritizing and resolving problems effectively.
o Experience managing job materials, supplies, and tools.
o Experience working with technical support reps for diverse systems.
o Experience reading engineering drawings and technical specifications is required.
o Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Outlook and other standard office environment applications is required.
o Drivers license required.
o Ability to pass a background check and drug test.
o Ability to work off ladders.
o Ability to lift 50 lbs.
