THE OVERALL JOB OBJECTIVE
Under general direction, performs a variety of duties including coordinating and distributing informational flyers, and performing water waste patrols. Work involves inspecting, patrolling, reporting, correcting, enforcing, documenting and investigating specific and general locations for ordinance violations. Work also involves progressive enforcement efforts beginning with constructive assistance and ending with the preparation and presentation of cases. Position requires extensive public contact. This is a seasonal assignment that typically covers the months of May through September. The individual selected will be required to work weekends and holidays.
TYPICAL DUTIES
o Create patrol schedule
o Distribute flyers door to door and at selected shopping centers
o Using either direct contact or indirect communication (door hangers, form letters or notice of violation forms), inform violators of observed non-compliance with water use restrictions, provide access to information on current water use restrictions and encourage voluntary corrective actions
o Respond to customer inquiries regarding excessive watering, water waste, and general water conservation questions
o Report to City staff and/or issue notices, warnings of violations of water misuse
o Inspect property locations and investigate complaints
o Maintain appropriate records and prepare documentation
o Perform other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
o Must be able to plan, organize, and complete work activities while minimizing travel times, maximizing coverage of water service area, and produce the greatest result in the workday
o Ability to read, understand, comprehend and recall applicable municipal codes, state regulations and ordinances related to water use restrictions
o Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with the public and co-workers on technical matters
o Understanding of basic landscape irrigation systems
o Ability to use good judgment, common sense, and tact in securing the voluntary cooperation and compliance of property owners, tenants, and the general public
o Must possess effective problem solving skills, handle difficult situations, minimize conflict, and resolve non-compliance in a positive manner
o Must be able to read and interpret a City map and locate and drive to street addresses
o Establish priorities and manage separate activities simultaneously
o Deal sensitively, diplomatically and cooperatively with the public and staff
o Work flexible hours
o Ability to enforce applicable ordinance and codes with firmness, tact and impartiality
Education and
Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. plus two years similar experience involving extensive public contact.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid California Class C Motor Vehicle Operator's License and satisfactory driving record.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, and walk up to two miles in varying climates and temperature conditions.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
