month temporary position with the opportunity for extension.
The position is located in Wilkes Barre, PA.

Job Description:
The Safety and Training Specialist coordinates the environmental, health and safety activities for the Wilkes-Barre Plant.
This position is responsible for ensuring the plant is in compliance with all federal, state, local and corporate requirements in the areas of environmental, health and safety.
This position performs work involving the implementation and monitoring of new or established environmental, health and safety programs and a variety of associated tasks.
This position is also responsible for managing the Training Program for the site which includes all required safety training, facilitation of classroom training and new hire orientations and tracking all of the employee training records for the site.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Implements, audits and updates Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) programs.
Develops and implements procedures and programs to meet the specific safety needs of the W-B Plant.
Ensures that EH&S programs are in compliance with all corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
Also prepares and maintains all forms/records as required to meet compliance requirements.
Coordinates safety activities of managers and supervisors to ensure effective and consistent implementation of safety activities throughout the plant.
Interacts with supervisors and shop personnel in order to identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices.
Identifies unsafe conditions and practices, recommending appropriate corrective action.
Maintains contact with outside organizations such as corporate industrial hygienists, safety and health specialists, environmental professionals, fire departments and rescue teams in order to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.
Participates in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of EH&S program developments.
Implement a high quality Training Program which supports plant and business objectives, and which meets individual needs and regulatory requirements.
Establish and maintain training matrix for all plant personnel.
Included in this matrix is the training required by EH&S, operations, agency regulation, quality and department specific needs.
Create and maintain individual employee development plans to fill skill gaps and ensure technical development of the workforce.
Maintain skill level documentation required for employee promotion to next skill level.
Integrate corporate and group level required training with facility specific training programs.
Training programs offered must be comprehensive but effective and efficient in presentation.
Interface with Corporate and Group level training personnel as required to optimize the facility training.
Coordinate training priorities with Safety Support Specialist and LSO to ensure that all training is offered when scheduled/required, including new hire orientation and basic training.
Maintain and enhance monthly/quarterly/yearly safety statistics.
Implement computer based training (CBT) where feasible for regulatory, company operations, quality, and department specific training.
Perform classroom training of salaried exempt, salaried non-exempt, and hourly personnel as qualified and required.
Maintain and improve content of Touch Screen Kiosks.
Maintain site training records in accordance with all regulatory and corporate requirements.
Perform administrative duties for the Safety Support Specialist.
This position involves support on off-shifts.
JOB REQUIREMENTS Should be a graduate of a 2 or 4 year degree program from an accredited college or university, and/or equivalent work experience.
Should have 1-3 years of progressively Environmental, Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing environment and strong knowledge of EH&S principles, practices, regulations and codes:
including 29 CFR 1910, EPCRA 313 and RCRA compliance.
