MEDICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT (MSA)
This position is with the VA Roseburg Healthcare System, in Roseburg, OR.
The incumbent serves as a Medical Support Assistant (MSA) within the Veterans Administration Roseburg Healthcare System (VARHS).
The incumbent will normally work at one of the locations within VARHS (community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), ambulatory/primary care, inpatient care units, Community Living Center (CLC), mental health, specialty care, operative care, emergency department, compensation and pension) and might be required to work at any location with VARHS as necessary on a regular and/or recurring basis depending on organizational need.
The incumbent performs duties related to the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information to ensure smooth flow of patient/resident care from reception through disposition.
The incumbent will interface with personal computer (PC) applications (Emergency Department Integrated System EDIS , Bed Management System BMS , MyHealtheVet) and numerous Vista applications and the computerized patient record system (CPRS).
The MSA is responsible for scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines.
Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to:
processing of hospital admissions/transfers/discharges, managing and populating the bed management system (BMS);scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information; monitoring the electronic wait list; preparing for clinic visits; monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensuring encounter forms are completed to obtain appropriate workload credit; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals; performing basic eligibility, co-pays, and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage.
The incumbent monitors the anniversary means test process and the required by appointment means test process.
The incumbent guides Veterans in completing means test and ensures completion and accuracy upon entering information into VISTA.
The incumbent provides means test counseling for Veterans, families, and staff.
The incumbent advises Veterans on MyHealtheVet processes and assists with use of automated systems including kiosks.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
