Job Description :
Systems Administration Sr. Manager - UNIX Systems, while reporting to the Director, Technical Services, works to ensure the Systems Administration team members provide systems administration support, system level architectural design, capacity planning, and developer support. The Sr. Manager will also provide guidance through complex system issues, architectural decision points, and will work with the team to refine the policies that govern these systems. On occasion the Sr. Manager may be required to assist in a hands-on capacity. The Sr. Manager is responsible for management of a team supporting and implementing UNIX and Linux systems, with a focus on IBM AIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux platforms. The teams work in close partnership with systems development and database services teams as primary customers in support of business systems and initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
oDirect supervision of a five member UNIX and Linux Systems Administration team and oversight of a third-party Level 2 operational support team.
oResponsible for an enterprise implementation of UNIX and Linux platforms in physical server and virtualized environments, including local and remote locations.
oFacilitates installation, implementation and support of business applications, middleware platforms and databases in cooperation with development and database administration teams.
oOversees all of UNIX and Linux Systems Administration and the refinement of Systems Administration policy.
oOversees system and application level architectural design, capacity planning.
oProvides application integration solutions for systems development teams.
oManages the procurement and budgeting processes around systems hardware, operating systems, and systems management tools.
oEnsures that the systems support staff provide necessary developer support.
oEnsures that the systems support staff work to provide the optimal system performance and architecture.
oEnsures the needs for capacity planning and growth are met.
oEnsures that the needs for project-based systems components are executed within the needs of the project.
oAssists and manages system support staff to provide best practice systems designs, scripts, etc.
oOversees the technical aspects of disaster recovery preparedness.
oEnsures that the appropriate levels of security within the operating systems.
oAudits previous work for adherence to policy and business need.
oPlans and controls the implementation of the backup and recovery procedures while understanding standards, needs, and operational capacity.
oSeek stronger technology strategies to make the systems as useful, robust, manageable, and available as possible.
oEnsure availability of systems as required by the business.
oEnsure that team meets the requirements for change management, security, disaster recovery, availability, and performance.
oWorks with the other areas of the companies so that goals, techniques, and progress are clearly understood.
oEffectively communicates with users, developers, and management.
oUnderstand development lifecycle and goals for supported efforts.
oProvides the point of contact for system support team involvement in new IS projects and initiatives.
oEnsure that the team cooperates fully to meet business-related needs.

Work Experience and/or Education

years' experience managing technical staff, projects, and budgets.

years' experience leading UNIX and Linux server administration, implementation and support teams.
oPrevious experience implementing systems-related policies and/or service level agreements.
oPrevious experience with systems management techniques and tools.
oPrevious experience managing vendor relationships, especially with IBM and HP.
Compensation will consist of a competitive salary based on your experience, with bonus potential.
