Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
The nurse practices as a Psychiatric ARNP under delineated clinical privileges at the Port Angeles CBOC.
The patient population includes Veterans who are likely to present with PTSD, mood disorders, substance abuse disorders, anxiety disorders and concomitant medical co-morbidities.
The ARNP completes a psychological intake on all patients assigned, writes treatment plans, manages medications, orders diagnostic tests when needed and makes referrals to appropriate clinics in the VA system as well as in the community.
The ARNP participates in peer education and counseling.
Based on education and experience, the ARNP may act as preceptor to staff/trainees and assume duties needed to provide care to this complex group of patients.
The NP maintains knowledge of current practices, acts as a role model and mentor to other nurses, acts as a patient advocate and participates in professional activities at local and state levels.
The NP is knowledgeable in assessment, treatment and evaluation of a comprehensive range of health care problems including but not limited to:
preventive health, prescribing medications and other treatments; ordering, conducting and interpreting laboratory, diagnostic studies and procedures; and patient and family education utilizing community, social and health resources.
