Industrial Equipment Mechanic
Duties:
This position involves the performance of a variety of trade practices to provide preventive maintenance as well as routine and general emergency repairs to medical center buildings, equipment, and utility systems.
Despite the variety of work assignments, three main requirements of the position are dominant - Electrician, Pipefitter, and Industrial Equipment Mechanic.
Electrician - Modifications, repairs and troubleshooting of electrical lines, circuits, complete, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment.
The incumbent will make continuity tests, ensure proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.
Pipefitter - repairs to new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam heating, steam generation, hydraulic systems, steam generators, flash and expansion tanks, condensate, vacuums, and circulating pumps and radiators.
Repairs broken steam lines and replaces pressure regulators and gauges.
Cuts, threads, and installs pipes.
Sets and secures heating units and connects traps, valves, and thermostats to pipe systems.
Industrial Equipment Mechanic - provides repairs and maintenance of laundry, environmental management, food production, and exercise equipment.
The employee also repairs and maintains miscellaneous equipment, such as imprinters, ward furniture, automatic doors, and small electric, diesel, and gas engines.
Repairs engines and complete assemblies on internal combustion engine operated equipment.
Engines include gas and diesel power lawn mowers, and front-end loaders.
The employee greases the equipment, changes bearings, and repairs electrical equipment.
In addition, he/she repairs transmissions, rear ends, electrical devices, and hydraulic mechanisms.
The incumbent also makes repairs to outside light standards.
Repairs toilets, sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, tubs, and showers.
Installs and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures working from blueprints, written specifications, and oral instructions.
Replaces valves, broken lines; installs traps.
Tests joints and pipe systems for leaks.
Periodically inspects systems to locate malfunction.
Installs, repairs, or replaces lamps ballasts, switches, receptacles, and conduit as required.
Specific repairs include changing transformers, indicating lights, buzzers, and complete electrical systems.
The incumbent must have a good basic understanding of the concept of mechanics.
The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of hydraulics as applied to pumps, cylinders, relief valves, etc.
Incumbent must understand drive trains, brakes, clutches, timers, pneumatic and electric solenoids, relief valves, air pressure stations, and many more mechanical, air, and electrical operated devices throughout the Medical Center.
Must know how to read blueprints, specifications, drawings, and layouts of the pipefitting trade.
Skill in bending, cutting, threading, and assembling pipe.
Ability to prepare templates and sketches, test pipe systems, install thermostatic systems, install and maintain high pressure steam equipment, and make arithmetic calculations.
Skill in the use of sliding squares, chalk lines, plumb bobs, flanges, hand or power pipe threaders, and cutters.
