Position
Summary: As Oracle Database Administrator (DBA), serves as technical authority for database design, administration, development, and implementation. A DBA understands the inner workings of the specialized Oracle software used to manage each database data store. The Oracle DBA supports: installations, upgrades, patch installation, performance monitoring, system configurations, and capacity planning.
The Work:
Essential Functions:
Install, upgrade and patch Oracle RDBMS Homes
Monitor and apply database security and patching as identified by CIS or Oracle Critical Patch updates
Perform/define the data/database backup and recovery process for recoverability and availability
Ensure archive logging is used on all production environments
Ensure all support files are copied to tape on a defined schedule and logged
Ensure database files are copied to tape on a defined schedule and logged
Follow the SCM model: install required patches or upgrades to development environments for testing by developers prior to applying in test environments
Apply patches or upgrades to test environments for testing by functional users prior to applying in production environments
Ensure that copies of production databases are in place to serve as a development and test environments where appropriate and refreshed as needed
Set up scripts to start, stop and cleanup each Oracle database and the associated application
Create scripts to help automate many of the database administration processes
Control user access to the database resources and information
Assist developers, analysts, and functional users with database related questions
Assist in the development of sound database queries and reports
Keep current with Oracle database versions, operating systems, and application technologies
Audit database and system usage and performance and tune database environments
Monitors and allocates storage space for data growth
Maintain database process documents
Work with management in response to audit questions and findings
Be the focal point when problems arise with the database, applications, disk usage, restricted user access, and access to the database
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
A BS or BA degree is required in an appropriate field (e.g., computer science, information systems, systems engineering, or business administration) or eight (8) years of related experience in required
A minimum of five years of Database Administration experience is required
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
