Gerdau is currently seeking a Process Engineer / Improvement Facilitator for the Sayreville, NJ facility. Relocation assistance provided.
Position
Summary:
This position will assist the site Improvement Facilitators, Routine Facilitators, department superintendents & plant management in ensuring the efficiency & effectiveness of all improvement aspects within their area of responsibility. Primary responsibility is to focus on continuous improvement & integration of improvement principles, technical & engineering principles, identifying best practices & act as a change agent to help achieve a higher level of results within the assigned location by utilizing & implementing improvement processes.
Responsibilities:
Identify opportunities for improvement in processes, products, & production within the area of responsibilities.
Develop & implement new as well as adjusting existing standards, structures, systems, & equipment.
Maintain goal & project databases.
Perform trend analysis on the performance data as well as identify commonalities within the data.
Facilitate training sessions for all employees on the improvement methodologies, tools, policies, practices & processes.
Develop & coach employees on capabilities and knowledge in the application of the QIS methodology & participate as needed in QIS events.
Collaborate with Routine Facilitators on subjects pertaining to the GBS processes, improvement standards, CAPEX standards, audits, 5S initiatives, failure analysis, results management, QIS, FA, Six Sigma & other process improvement methodologies.
Identify & solve chronic / repetitive problems & failures as well as reduce process variation.

Requirements include:
BS degree in Metallurgy or Material Science preferred. Will consider Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in steel, metal or heavy manufacturing environment.
Experience working with processes, performing experiments, changing process parameters in order to increase productivity, reducing downtime or delays, reducing consumption of raw materials & reducing costs.
Strong communication skills, driven to improve processes & implement change.
Ability to train & serve as coaches to employees.
Exposure to standardization & production quality methods.
Must be able to apply engineering fundamentals to the continuous improvement efforts of production and maximize the efficiency of the overall department operations.
