The Intelligence , Surveillance, and Reconnaissance ( ISR ) group at BAE Systems has a need for a Senior Controls Engineer on embedded control systems. This individual will be responsible for recommending, specifying, modeling and designing control systems and devices used in the design, engineering and implementation of new technologies. The Senior Controls Engineer will be part of a small multi-discipline engineering team designing and building the next generation surveillance and reconnaissance systems.
Responsibilities
Design, develop and implement motor control solutions for precision gimbal pointing systems. The design expertise include knowledge of motors, drive systems, feedback components/gyros, bearings/friction/dynamics and compensation for embedded solutions. The Controls Engineer will provide floating and fixed point solutions for software and FPGA implementations. He/she will also be responsible for interfacing with all disciplines within the engineering team, for specifying the control system to meet product system performance and for generating full-up operational models in MATLAB/Simulink. Tasks include hardware integration and acceptance testing for verifying system performance including acquisition of open-loop transfer functions for bandwidth and phase margin measurements.
Required Skills and Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Control Systems Engineering or similar. Masters / Doctorate degree in Control Systems preferred

years of experience in the modeling and design of precision control systems
Knowledge of Brush, Brushless Motors and Voice Coil Actuators
Knowledge of linear and rotary position sensors, such as optical encoders
Understanding of motor drive systems including 3-phase commutation
Full understanding of friction to inertia ratios, drift issues and jitter, or motion-control requirements
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Strong Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink
Floating and fixed point filter design
Strong technical/proposal writing skills and presentation skills
Preferred Skills and Education
Understanding of temperature feedback, thermal control systems
Knowledge of optical tracking methods and algorithms
Strong knowledge of inertial navigation systems and performance factors
Position can be based out of MA, NH or NY depending on candidate preference.
