Job Title: Metallurgical Technician III
Schedule- Flexible hours; 7:00 AM- 4:00 PM, 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
5-10 years Experience in role.
Microsoft Office/Suite required.
Overview:
Conducts routine metallurgical examination of steel, cast iron, stainless steel and aluminum alloys to determine microstructure, condition, soundness and other characteristics.
Typical Functions:
Examines and tests metal samples to determine properties and characteristics; Visually inspects metal components and makes appropriate samples to determine microstructures and test hardness and mechanical properties.
Polishes and etches metal specimens to assess microstructures and documents conditions with photomicrographs using microscopes or metallographs and digital imaging systems.
Examines components by visual means and documents conditions with macro photography.
Uses nondestructive inspection methods like penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic and eddy current to detect internal fractures, impurities, and similar defects in metals.
Required:
A minimum of two years of met lab training or 5 years of experience directly related to a met lab is typically required for carrying out the responsibilities for this job.
Education:
This is a paraprofessional level position and excludes positions that require a four-year college degree. -
