Major Duties:
You will operate in a complex center that handles all-risk incidents including law enforcement, search and rescue, emergency medical, and fire in four National Park Service units. Operate a number of public safety computer networks as well as answering emergency and nonemergency telephone calls and radio traffic. Assist law enforcement staff in their investigations, to include gathering background information using various computer programs such as Justice Exchange, Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Work with area law enforcement, fire and medical services to achieve a positive outcome for any incident. Multitask in stressful situations.
Area Information:
Buffalo National River was established in 1972 as the country's first national river, the park protects 135 miles of river from near its origin in the Boston Mountains to the confluence with the White River in Northwest Arkansas. Nearly 100,000 acres in size, roughly one third of the park's land base is designated wilderness. Heavily wooded and extremely rugged terrains are found throughout the park along with numerous hidden caves and waterfalls. There are over 100 miles of maintained trails for hiking and horseback use. There are two developed campgrounds and eight primitive campgrounds throughout the entire park. Of the two developed campgrounds, only one offers amenities such as water and electricity hook ups for visitors. There is one visitor center in each of the three districts, two of which are staffed and open to the public year round. Harrison has a population of approximately 13,000 people. Harrison offers K-12 schools, a community college, restaurants, shopping, groceries, a movie theatre, a performing arts theatre, a hospital, and specialized clinics. There are several rental properties, as well as homes to purchase within Harrison and Boone County.

For the GS-06: Applicants must have one year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-05, in the Federal Government Service.
Qualifications: To be eligible for this position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience and/or education as well as selective factors as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire.
Qualifications for this position are:
One year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience include monitoring All-Risk activity of Law Enforcement, wildland fire, structural fire, prescribed fire, medical emergencies, search and rescue operations and monitors a variety of alarm systems. Experience must include responding to emergency telephone calls and emergency radio traffic, determining the priority of response and relaying incident information to responding public safety units. Maintains current status of all public safety units, ensures adequate coverage, follows proper radio procedures and records information in a public safety computer network including NCIC/NLETS (Federal Bureau of Investigations) and the state equivalent.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Males 18 years of age or older, born after December 31, 1959 must certify Selective Service Registration or proof of exemptions under Selective Service law /
2. Probationary Period: Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period or a two-year period, depending on the authority under which you are appointed.
3. Department of the Interior employees must identify a financial institution for direct deposit of net pay.
4. Required to hold a ACIC (Arkansas Criminal Information Center Level I and Level II certifications. If you do not already hold these certifications, will be required to obtain within 2 months of entrance on duty. Failure to obtain/maintain will result in termination for failure to meet a condition of employment.
5. Required to complete a Federal Background Investigation and be favorably adjuicated prior to entrance on duty.
6. May be required to work Holidays, Evenings, and Weekends.
