This position provides engineering assistance and support services for the safety of dams program, as well as providing technical support to regional programs in water allocations, water right licensing, or compliance. This position provides a unique opportunity to develop your engineering career in water resource management while fulfilling a crucial role in the administration of Idaho's essential water resources.
A Water Resource Engineer will:
Conduct inspections of existing dams and monitor construction activities for new dams and hydraulic structures
Perform limited technical engineering analysis related to dam design, hydrology and slope stability
Respond to public requests for information and / or complaints regarding dams and reservoirs in hazard assessment, communication and risk mitigation activities
Coordinate collection of water discharge, water use and related data for monitoring network
Provide customer assistance in water appropriations
Perform water right licensing field exams
Provide quality control of data and make periodic field measurements at network sites
Coordinate with other agency staff and other government / private entities on data collection efforts and programs
Assist water districts and others in delivery of water and water rights, measurement of water, selection and design of water measuring devices and water right regulations
The Department of Water Resources is looking for dedicated employees with:
Good technical skills in surface and ground water hydrology, water measurement, and use of equipment for water measurement and monitoring
Experience or good understanding of the Prior Appropriation Doctrine and Idaho Water Law; hydrologic structure and safety of dams; and use of GIS applications. The ability to mediate or negotiate disputes between parties with conflicting goals and objectives.
Good technical writing skills are necessary for technical reports, guidance memos and policy recommendation
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure: Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE); or eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12; AND
Experience: Analyzing, interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws when applying professional engineering principles and practices: writing technical engineering reports; evaluating, selecting and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects; coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards and experience in Water Resource Management and Dam Safety.
Examination:
Education and Experience. You must meet the minimum requirements to qualify for this position. Scoring is based on the information you provide. A minimum score of 85 is needed to pass this exam. Test results will be available online when the review process is complete.
