Purpose :
Position is available to employees of the Associated C.O.L.T. Staff of the University of Maine from December 1, 2014 through December 5, 2014 and open to external applicants thereafter.
Full-time, regular position , 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Daily work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position pays $14.61/hour. This position serves as the social media/marketing and web specialist for the University of Maine Bookstore primarily and other auxiliary units as needed (including Dining, MaineCard, Housing, Printing & Mailing). The successful candidate will be proficient in all aspects of social media and must have a proven record of website experience that has helped drive traffic to specific websites and media thus increasing sales while engaging customers. The UMaine community customer base is made up of students, alumni, faculty, staff and athletic fans.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
This position will report to, and work with, the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications for UMaine Auxiliary Services to create and implement internet and social media strategies with valuable input from the Associate Director of the UMaine Bookstore. This hands-on position is responsible for both strategic and technical tasks. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for championing creative solutions that deliver insightful customer value and engagement across every interaction while working within budget.
Improve the usability, design, content and overall customer experience of the Bookstore website within the current ePOS system:
Monitor store website for outdated content
Update content to ensure accurate merchandise & pricing
Photograph merchandise
Remove discontinued product from the site
Troubleshoot website issues and collaborates with auxiliary tech department, UMaine IT or ePOS vendor when needed
Act as designated lead person working with Bookstore's social media platforms:
Facebook, twitter, Instagram, SMS marketing, email campaigns etc.
Responsible for daily monitoring and posting
Ensure social media and internet campaigns are consistent with UMaine branding standards.
Perform consistent and effective analysis to track activity and progress on websites and social media channels; provide regular reports to team members.
Conduct market research and benchmarking on customer behavior and attitudes, trends in the market and social media/internet, competition, etc.
Responds, both verbally and in writing, to customers regarding non-routine questions, issues and procedures, handling complex issues and requests with sensitivity and tact as well as a comprehensive understanding of relevant policies, procedures and operations.
Assist with Bookstore floor layouts and merchandise displays with a flair for excellent customer interaction and service as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications :
1 to 3 years of administrative support experience required.
Experience in digital marketing strategies including, but not limited to, ecommerce, ePOS management, Internet marketing, web content & social media is preferred.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required.
Must have proficiency in the English language (grammar, spelling, proofreading & writing).
Experience in marketing copy and strategies preferred.
Expertise in WordPress and an ePOS system, and a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
Previous success effectively collaborating with a cross-departmental team to meet objectives and goals.
Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making and customer service skills.
Comfortable with working with others and independently at times in a fast-paced, multifunctional, professional and rewarding environment at UMaine.
Works effectively and cooperatively with other members of the University Bookstore, UMaine administration, the campus community, and other external clients and customers.
Develops and maintains professional relationships that reflect courtesy, civility and respect.
