The Computer Science Research Group (CSR) in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division, at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory has an opening for one or more Postdoctoral Researchers in the field of programming environments for many-core and accelerated systems.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
The successful candidate will carry out research and development in the area of programming models, languages, and runtimes for portable node-level programming of highly parallel systems which utilize many-core processors and/or computational accelerators. Emphasis will be placed on OpenMP and OpenACC, though other existing and new approaches are also of interest. The candidate will be expected to participate in the design, development, and demonstration of language and runtime capabilities supporting large-scale computational science applications on current and coming systems. This work will be carried out in multi-disciplinary teams, including both computer and computational scientists in support of the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF, http://olcf.ornl.gov). Publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings is expected.
Qualifications Required
A Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field
Demonstrated research experience in programming environments for high-performance computers
Background in compilers, runtimes, and computer architecture
Strong programming and software development skills.
Experience with parallel computing
Demonstrated ability to work successfully in interdisciplinary teams, crossing the traditional boundaries of computer science and computational science research
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills

Additional Qualifications Desired
Experience developing compilers or runtime systems for highly parallel and/or accelerated node architectures
Experience implementing OpenMP or OpenACC
Experience with accelerator programming
Experience with large-scale computational science applications
Additional Information: Applicants cannot have received their PhD more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. This position is a temporary, full-time assignment with an initial appointment not to exceed 24 months. Certain exceptions may be considered.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
