This is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this entry level solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.
With Close Supervision:
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.
Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity.
Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
This position is part of the MW Substation Engineering group within the Transmission Organization. This work group is responsible for the design of new and existing distribution and transmission substations from 4kV through 345kV. Design projects range from routine equipment modifications and installations, to the complete design of new substations. The position requires the individual to be able to manage work between multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs. The individual will utilize a variety of tools and techniques in order to complete an engineering design, including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources. Final product is an engineering release package consisting of pertinent drawings, permits, bills of material, etc.
The position is responsible for producing: 1) the best possible design for transmission substation facilities considering all environmental, land use, engineering and economic factors and in accordance with the approved schedule; 2) plans, coordination, and monitoring the progress and quality of work group activities on assigned projects to meet the requirements of the Project Managers; 3) specific project information for various planning studies, the annual budget, and special projects; 4) work assignments in a manner consistent with both the Duke Energy Safety Manual as well as with Federal, State, and local laws; 5) all project activities and work activities in a sound and cost-effective manner that contributes to the safety of Company employees and the public, reliability of service, and reasonable protection of the environment.
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles
Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations
Desired Qualifications
Received a passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
Understanding of basic principles of project management
Experience in the utility industry
Experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others'

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
