The BSA Specialist is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Bank's Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) program and with the related rules and regulations pertaining to money laundering and customer identification program.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Maintains a system of internal controls to assure ongoing compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and related regulatory requirements including:
The accurate and timely electronic filing of CTR's, SAR's, and DEP's (Designation of Exempt Person)
Maintenance of CTR exemption list
Maintenance of the monetary instrument log
Review of the wire transfer file and researching it for any unusual or suspicious activity including, but not limited to, cash volume and details regarding recipients and originators of wires
Assists in monitoring accounts for unusual or suspicious activity including, but not limited to, cash volume, remote deposit capture, bill pay, ACH, ATM/POS transactions and Private Banking activity
Monitoring reports to assure OFAC compliance
Adhering to mandatory information sharing requirements with government (314a) requests
Reviewing new account profiles in EDD and monitoring requirements
Supports the BSA Officer and BSA Manager to assure appropriate steps are taken to correct any deficiency in compliance of the BSA Programs.
Provides on-going support for and conducts bank-wide and job-specific training with the Bank's BSA Program including:
Bank Secrecy Act
Anti Money Laundering Program
Enhanced Due Diligence Program
Customer Identification Program
OFAC Program
Troubleshoots and trains employees for new BSA systems enhancements.
Serves as secretary to the SARS Committee.
Prepares organized and logical reports and work papers for OCC, internal and external audit review, including the MLR survey.
Ensures adequate documentation is maintained to substantiate all BSA related issues.
Conducts follow-up activities to ensure BSA exceptions are resolved.
Maintains current knowledge of BSA regulatory requirements and attend management approved training as deemed appropriate.
Adherence to established regulatory requirements.
Additional duties as assigned.
Education/ Experience /Certification
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
3-5 years of banking experience required within BSA, Compliance, or Audit department with the proven experience and knowledge of the following:
Regulatory requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act and related regulatory requirements.
In depth knowledge of bank products, services, customers and geographic locations as well as the ability to identify potential money laundering and terrorist financing risks associated with various activities.
Proven high level expertise in branch operations.
Skill Requirements
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to exercise discretion, tactfully handle sensitive and confidential data, and completion of assignments in a timely manner.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment as well as meet deadlines is essential.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
