Position Summary
Bank of the West currently has an opening in the Accounting Policy and Controls group. This position would be responsible for researching pertinent accounting literature under both U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and International Financial Reporting Standards and implementing and monitoring the enterprise-wide system of internal controls.
Position Accountabilities
1. Serve as the Bank's business line interface with accounting pronouncements, including, but not limited to those written by the following entities: Securities & Exchange Commission, Financial Accounting Standards Board, International Accounting Standards Board, Derivatives Implementation Group, and the Emerging Issues Task Force
2. Work with the Business Line Groups on the implementation of changes to the Bank's accounting policies, procedures, standards and controls
3. Work with the Business Line Groups to ensure General Ledger balances related to large or complex transactions are properly stated in accordance with the Accounting Policy Manual and GAAP, and that major financial accounting procedures and controls are in place and functioning
4. Responsible for servicing as the Subject Matter Expert for the FDIC, Federal Reserve and state auditors
5. Maintain/update the BancWest Accounting Policy Manual, and ensure new pronouncements are reflected in the manual in a timely manner
6. Ensure the Executive Management Committee and Audit Committee are informed of major changes
7. Prepare well-organized, comprehensive and pertinent reports for complex issues and transactions
8. Be responsible for managing the financial reporting enterprise-wide system of internal controls for effectiveness.
9. Review financial statement line items and disclosures to determine the necessary controls or modifications to those controls
10. Ensure controls are established, implemented and monitored. Control deficiencies identified during other interactions with the line groups are also to be identified and addressed in the same manner
11. Be responsible for processes and system enhancements
12. Identify opportunities to streamline compliance activities and make them a seamless part of operations

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business with an Accounting Concentration required
Master's/Advanced Degree is preferred
Required license(s) or certifications CPA required
Three or more years of experience in a professional level accounting experience with a Big 4 Accounting form or five to seven years of professional level accounting experience.
Alternative: Combination of education and experience (years /description) Three years of progressive accounting experience in the banking/financial services industry
Working knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory accounting practices in financial institutions
Experience in evaluating and implementing financial reporting controls
Working knowledge of bank operations and information systems
Experience in change management and cross-functional work teams
Analytical and research skills
Presentation skills & Negotiation skills

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
