Description:
Leidos is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to be a member of our team. The qualified candidate will function as the lead mechanical design engineer for key subsystems and components of larger integrated subsea systems. Candidate will also be required to provide systems engineering support in the development of those systems. This position will support projects in Lynnwood, WA.
Primary responsibilties include:
- Static, dynamic design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment, and packages.
- Develop and maintain requirements documents, concept of operations documents, and interface control documents.
- Generate and maintain engineering drawings in support of manufacturing, following company drafting standards and configuration management policies.
- Develop project test plans and test procedures, provide test planning support, and assist in the execution of both lab testing and at-sea testing.
- Provide field support planning, shipboard mobilization/de-mobilization support, shipboard at-sea test support, and other field support in general.
- Conduct experimental tests on equipment, evaluate results, and then develop specifications for selecting components and equipment for deliverable systems.
- Interact with outside customers, suppliers, and functional peer groups.
- Some travel and work at remote sites for limited time periods will be required.
- Generate and/or approve written work instructions.
- Review and sign drawings and engineering change orders (ECOs), as required.
- Provide status reports to project managers and/or division production manager as required.
Qualifications:
Required Educations & Skills:
- Commensurate with primary responsibilities described above.
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Ocean Engineering, and 4
years related experience.
- Experienced in mechanical design; mechanical design experience must include an ability to design mechanical structures (machined, welded) and mechanical/electromechanical mechanisms, perform structural analyses (both manually and via FEA), generate 3D Models using Solid Works and/or Solid Edge, develop engineering documentation in accordance with ASME Y14.1000, and a strong understanding of the manufacturing & machining processes that relate to hardware design.
- Experienced in mechanical system integration and test.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work without close supervision.
- Strong, effective, and professional communication (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to take initiative in troubleshooting of issues; creative in determining approach or action to take in non-routine situations.
- Competent in use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Project.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Experience adhering to ISO 9001:2008 processes.
- Experience with design of underwater structures or other systems designed for harsh environments.
- Prior experience with unmanned underwater vehicles and associated electronics/sensors, underwater cables/connectors, control and monitor electronics, launch and recovery subsystems, and system-to-host interfaces.
