These positions are located in the Rawlins and Rock Springs Field Offices, WY.
The Rock Springs Field Office manages over 3.6 million acres of public land surface and 3.5 million acres of public subsurface minerals in the southwestern part of Wyoming. The Field Office administers a variety of programs including mineral exploration and development, wildlife habitat, outdoor recreation, wild horses, livestock grazing, and historic trails. The Rawlins Field Office encompasses 11.5 million acres in south-central Wyoming and includes the eastern third of Sweetwater County in addition to all of Carbon, Albany and Laramie counties. Within that area, the Rawlins Field Office is responsible for the management of 3.5 million acres of public lands and approximately 4.5 million acres of federal mineral estate. Performs work as an advanced trainee under the guidance and supervision of a supervisor or higher graded wildlife biologist. Major duties include but are not limited to: Evaluating and conducting biological analyses of wildlife ecology and behavior as it relates to land and water resource projects; identifying the impacts to wildlife habitat and threatened and endangered species; evaluating inventory and monitoring data to determine population trends and impacts; serving on interdisciplinary teams addressing wildlife and other natural resource issues and problems; and writing and reviewing the biological input to a variety of documents.
Physical Demands: The work is performed in the office and field locations. When working in the field, the duties may require walking over rough, uneven terrain, exposure to extreme temperatures, and will require that you operate a four-wheel drive vehicle on and off roads in isolated areas. Basic Education Requirement: This position has a basic education requirement which requires you to have a degree in biological science that includes at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences; OR a combination of education and experience -- equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
