The Gift Officer (GO) within the College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Affairs and Development team is a front-line fundraising professional responsible for managing the relationships of approximately 150-300 households comprised of alumni, parents, and friends with the giving potential of $25,000 or more. The GO will begin to build relationships around both donor interests and college fundraising priorities.
Will travel to meet identified potential prospects to qualify them in an effort to build a full portfolio
May use on-line, social media, and other digital resources to ascertain philanthropic capacity and inclination
Is responsible to move prospects through five specific stages of management: qualification; cultivation; ready to solicit; solicitation; and stewardship
Will developed annual work plans, visitation, solicitation goals, and related objectives in collaboration with the Director of Alumni Affairs and Development for the College of Arts and Sciences
Record strategies, actions, stages, and lead interests, ensuring that all information relevant to their prospects is accurate and current in PeopleSoft
Work collaboratively with staff, faculty and colleagues in the College of Arts and Sciences and across the Alumni Affairs and Development, especially in the Cornell Annual Fund, Gift Planning, Donor Relations, and Foundation Relations
The Gift Officer will also work to advance the college's department-based development initiatives.

Qualifications include:
A bachelor's degree plus 3 or more of fundraising experience or equivalent combination with an understanding of the concepts of major gift fundraising, comprehensive campaign fundraising, and estate planning
A high degree of personal integrity and a commitment to values that support Cornell's mission to foster initiative, integrity, and excellence in an environment of collegiality, civility, and responsible stewardship
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to manage complex relationships
Ability to work in a system that emphasizes measurable objectives including mutually agreed-upon targets for gifts
Superior communication skills; clarity, crispness and effectiveness in written and oral presentations with the ability to speak and present credibly about the goals and mission of Cornell and the College of Arts and Sciences
Must be able to work in fast-paced, demanding environment while using sound judgment in decision making and in accomplishing tasks that are urgent or of a sensitive or confidential nature while meeting competing deadlines
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and the ability to learn and utilize development related computer software programs
A very strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow through
A willingness to travel extensively on behalf of Cornell University and the College of Arts and Sciences
