PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under the supervision/direction of the Manager, Hospital Operations, Central Distribution Operations is responsible for the day to day management of the receipt, verification, storage and distribution of all supplies, equipment and departmental records held by the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network as it relates to the Operating Room and Cardiac Catherization, EP Lab and Interventional Radiology

Manager, Hospital Operations, Distribution Services
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
The Operating Room/Cath Lab/EP/Interventional Radiology Inventory Specialist - Material Handler III must be able to perform all the functions of the Material Handler II functions in Hospital Operations - Central Distribution.
/Inventory and Distribution of Supplies: / Responsible for the logging of data and distribution of items from the ABHN Central Distribution Center and receiving areas to end-users on predetermined and on-call basis following all appropriate safety and infection control procedures as prescribed in the current hospital policies and procedures. Informs supervisor of problems
Assists the Manager, Central Distribution Services in allocating resources during the shift to meet the work flow.
Assists the Managers in maintaining the perpetual inventory. This includes checks for completeness, cycle counts, and condition of product, expiration dates, or waste.
Oversees all supply and charge functions
Conducts daily and periodic inventory checks throughout the operating room, cath lab, EP Lab, and Interventional Radiology Departments. Ensures stock levels are maintained in accordance with policy and procedures.
Proactive identifies opportunities. Networks with key hospital staff members to resolve problems and find solutions. Daily walks through responsible departments to review par levels to ensure areas are stocked, cleaned and organized and resolves issues as required.
Obtains information and assists in identifying problems and solutions in obtaining correct inventory levels.
Investigates complaints; takes appropriate action; documents action taken
Works with key OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, and IR staff to identify and procure non-stock inventories

/Inventory Review and Maintenance:/ In conjunction with the Managers, Supply Chain Project Manager/Material Handler III and the Supply Chain Business Analysts, systematically reviews every OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab and IR inventory annually to ensure relevance, turns, usage, pars, and product mix. Meets with department staff during review, develops and executes a work plan as review indicates. Conducts periodic inventory checks throughout the facilities, oversees the cycle count program for assigned inventories. Ensures stock levels are maintained in accordance with policy and procedures.

Provides in-service education for the staff
Assists the Manager(s) in competency assessments of the Material Handlers
Assists the Manager(s) in assessing skill competencies of the Material Handlers
Provides orientation of new staff members as required
/Quality Assurance/ : Supports and upholds established hospital and department policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety environment, infection control, codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
/Other Duties and Responsibilities/ :

Ensures work is done is a safe environment, meeting hospital safety standards and OSHA regulations
Be available off hours, holidays, and weekends to support emergency situations within the department as necessary
Performs the duties of a Lead, Material Handler III as required
Performs duties of the Material Handlers I and Material Handlers II employees based on operational needs of the department as appropriate.
Provides input and participates in providing feedback to the staff through quarterly and annual reviews
Communicates any workflow impediments, safety issues, equipment malfunctions or requests for service which are abnormal and/or not understood.
Performs duties in a cost-effective manner. Communicates and suggests ways to improve to supervisors any wasteful practices
Represents department and provides routine explanation of services to users

Little supervision is required for each job.
Supervises Material Handler II's and I's that are assigned to the OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, and IR Departments.
Acts as a technical resource; may direct other employees in similar work.

MINIMAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Position Qualifications

Associated of Science Degree preferred, or comparable work experience.
Must be computer savvy and know how to utilize the system's Material Management Utilization System
Must have the abilities to receive and follow instructions, read and write English, extract information, and perform mathematical calculations
Must have a minimum of five year of experiences as a Material Handlers II or similar experience in another hospital. Must have experience in an operating room setting as well as Receiving and Stores.
Must be able to perform all functions in the storeroom, OR, receiving dock or other designated area, within one year of promotion/employment. Must be able to move within divisions of the department based on work load and operational needs.
Must be able to interact with various levels of nursing staff and other personnel within the Medical Center
Must be able to work days, evenings or nights and weekends
Must be able to work at different locations with the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network
Medical supply knowledge is required
Complete understanding of how OR and Cath Lab inventories operate
Complete understanding of consigned inventory
Must be able to communicate and teach Material Handlers II and I's
