The Associate Medical Director works along with the Medical Director to assume responsibility for the medical component of the hospice's patient care program. The hospice Associate Medical Director will be either a part- or full-time employee of the hospice, or have a contract with the hospice outlining his/her responsibilities. The Associate Medical Director will be available whenever the hospice Medical Director is unable to perform his/her duties due to illness or vacation, or upon request. The Associate Medical Director does not replace the patient's primary physician, but serves in a consultative, supportive role. He/she functions as a liaison between the medical community and Community Hospices of America. The Associate Medical Director facilitates effective symptom management by advising and guiding interdisciplinary team decisions.
All duties and responsibilities require professionalism, sound judgment, and effective communication skills.
1. Provide medical direction to the program while working under the direction of the program's Medical Director.
2. Assure that the established policies, bylaws, rules, and regulations of the organization are followed in the program.
3. Adhere to requirements, terms, and conditions required by Medicare Conditions of Participation, and federal and state statutes governing the provision of services.
4. Serve as a hospice champion in the community.
5. Act as a liaison to community physicians by providing consultation and education to colleagues and attending physicians related to admission criteria for hospice and palliative care.
6. Provide training regarding the medical aspects of caring for terminally ill patients to physicians, personnel, and volunteers.
7. Review patients' medical eligibility for hospice services, in accordance with hospice program policies and procedures, and establishing the plan of care in conjunctions with attending physician and interdisciplinary group prior to providing care.
8. Provide written certification of the terminal illness for all subsequent benefit periods.
9. Consult with attending physicians regarding pain and symptoms management for hospice patients.
10. Manage oversight of the patient's medications and treatments
11. Act as medical resource to the hospice interdisciplinary group
12. Attend interdisciplinary group meetings and working in a team approach with the group
13. Works along with Medical Director for active collaboration with the QAPI Program
Currently licensed as a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy in the state of practice.
Understanding and acceptance of hospice philosophy.
Possess strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Must be of high integrity including maintenance of confidential information including all personnel and patient records.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, to include some evenings and weekends.
Has a valid driver's license and auto liability insurance.
Ability to meet physical job requirements as specified by attachment.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
