The incumbent of this position serves as the Team Lead of a team of Senior Production Analysts (SPAs) in the Production Management Branch (PMB) of NCEP Central Operations (NCO). The incumbent is responsible for supporting the continuous, highly critical operations of the NWS Weather Climate Operational Supercomputing System, providing central guidance and forecast products 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In this position, you will:
Troubleshoot large systems of computer applications being executed by complex UNIX scripts on a High Performance Computing environment.
Analyze, evaluate and implement planned, operational modifications in time-critical operational situations
Performs upgrades to the NCEP Production Suite using established software development principles.
Implement a suite of applications while maximizing the utilization and efficiency of memory, disk, and system resources.
Provide call back support during non-standard hours.
Utilize Configuration Management principles in the design and implementation of changes to the NCEP Production Suite.
Provide customer support concerning any operational issues and ensure that implementations and upgrades are properly coordinated and tested.
Work in a team environment to provide operational support
Prepare informational briefings for senior management on upcoming changes, as well as present root cause analysis and resolution briefings
Utilize Project Management principles in the planning and execution of upgrades to IT systems.
Basic Requirement:
You must have information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. This experience includes ALL of the following: using high level programming languages; conducting UNIX system administration; utilizing a knowledge of computer systems and their operation; programming in UNIX shell scripting and PERL programming language; troubleshooting complex systems of computer programs and providing problem resolution in a timely manner; and directing a team of technically-oriented individuals.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
