Provides technical support for engineering personnel working in a research or design/development environment. Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving testing, debugging, troubleshooting and simple optical design modifications. Assumes responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger or more diverse project. Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs and layouts.
2. Exercises a high degree of technical judgment required to troubleshoot, test and modify a wide variety of complex optical and electro-optical systems and subsystems involving the substitution of various parts and materials as required.
3. Plans, fabricates and tests adjustment fixtures and gauges needed to meet engineering requirements.
4. Troubleshoots and tests standard, special or improvised test equipment involving the effective use of optical, electrical or inspection instruments requiring a high degree of technical skill and experience to obtain desired results.
5. Designs test set-ups to conform to project requirements. Selects proper test fixtures from standard catalogues and may design appropriate fixtures as required to complete assigned project.
6. Designs or assists in the design and construction of unique optical or electro-optical instrumentation, gear trains and linkages, electronics packages and/or equipment.
7. Works from schematics, general oral instructions or rough sketches to construct or modify complex models and assemblies.
8. Conducts optical analysis under engineering direction utilizing basic design concepts.
9. Directs and coordinates the work of lower level technicians as project assignment requires.
10. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Required Skills and Education
Requires an Associate's Degree in Optical Engineering Technology or equivalent and a minimum of four (4) years of directly related optical technician experience.
Requires an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent and a minimum of four (4) years of directly related experience.
Ability to work in a clean room; proper cleanroom protocol and gowning procedures
Ability to work with small hand tools
Ability to use measurement tools and devices such as micrometers and calipers

Run experiments as needed for process improvement activities or to investigate process issues or problems with the production flow.
Special assignments/projects aimed at reducing cycle time, reducing costs and improving overall yields.
Monitor and audit production processes for quality control and write reports and recommendations on improving yield and efficiency.
Assist Sr. Engineering as needed on projects and process control/monitoring- to iclude SPC charts, control charts etc to make sure processes stay within specifications
Failure Analysis
Work cross functionally with Operations to improve quality and reduce scrap.
