The Materials Manager is responsible for material flow from incoming receiving/inspection to line side presentation for production including end-of-line pick, pack & ship (incoming receiving/inspection, offsite raw warehousing storage & control, de-trashing, all material movements, supermarket sizing & replenishment). The Materials Manager is a key contributor to help improve customer service levels (Fill Rate), working capital (Inventory Turns) and drives material margin improvements (Sourcing Savings). This role is responsible for driving business solutions and practices utilizing the company's Operating Model to help manage material sizing/replenishment, shipping/logistics, cycle count accuracy, service parts and receiving/inspection as part of a demand driven approach. The Materials Manager will support the department's strategic initiative and standardized approaches within each respective area.
Key Duties:
Oversees inventory management and control, accuracy, and established inventory guidelines and procedures.
Oversees process execution for excess and obsolete materials.
Manages and optimizes daily warehousing operations including staging, cycle count, receiving, service parts, storage of materials per SIOP, shipping of finished goods and in-direct materials.
Partners with the Quality, Purchasing and Production to develop effective and efficient solutions to customer quality and delivery issues and to achieve objectives and KPIs
Ensures high level of communication between customer service, demand planning/management, strategic sourcing/tactical purchasing and production to ensure a high degree of customer satisfaction
Develops and challenges resources to improve performance through systems utilization and process improvements.
Leads and improves Material/Inventory Management best practices including Warehouse Management (Cycle Count Accuracy, Transactions, Bar Coding, RFID) and Advance Replenishment Methods (MRP, Stocking Programs, VMI, Consignment, Re-Order Point and Direct Pull), Fill Rate (Overtime Delivery), and Working Capital (Inventory Turns), and Material Margins (TCO).
Leads and directs materials staff development through education, training, coaching, mentoring and certification in the execution of improvement priorities and the achievement of key performance indicators.
Maintains appropriate staffing levels for daily material management balancing resource capacity to workload.
Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:
Strong Lean background.
A solid track record for performance and progression within operations, business and supply chain.
Demonstrated ability to influence senior management, teams and individuals across multiple cultures and disciplines.
Sound business acumen operating in both High Mix, Low Volume and High Volume, Low Mix Production environments
Strong organization and time management skills
Solid quantitative skill set and the ability to analyze, think and communicate with well-supported data
Strong problem solving skills; the ability to ask the right questions, help frame logical conclusions and arrive at effective solutions
Strong verbal and written communication competencies
Basic
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree (preferably Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain) or equivalent experience and/or education required
3-5 years materials management or related experience.
1-2 years supervisory experience.
Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems
Association for Operations Management (APICS) certification. - preferred
